Holding spaces to facilitate change
Two years ago, I was contacted by a school wanting to develop a new structure to address some of the deep-seated issues concerning sustainability. Fully aware of the potential resistance of members of the school and of the school community, some staff and members of the Board knew that change was unavoidable … but what change, and how to go about it?
Slowing down to go faster
I am always encouraging people to slow down, to take time to think, to give themselves some headspace either on their own or with their team or partnership. Slowing down gives people time to remind themselves of, or to discover, the real purpose of their work, to consider their own connection to it, to notice what is going around them, to allow new and creative ideas to surface and, in a team, to work out who is best placed to take an idea forward.
